Pendulum: The Passage through Time
My project titled Pendulum is an instrumental concept album about the journey of Time, beginning with the singularity that was the Big Bang and ending with the destruction of Time itself. Combining elements of both acoustic and electronic instruments, Pendulum is inspired by artists such as Adam Young of Owl City, Trent Reznor, and others, along with video games like The Legend of Zelda and Fez.
My goal of this project is to demonstrate the sound engineering knowledge that I have accumulated in my degree and show that I can also compose and arrange my own music. I knew next to nothing about production when I first came to Ball State, but I had been writing my own music since early high school. I attribute much of what I know about composition and arranging to my high school band director, Greg Bimm. He indirectly taught me how to write a story without using any words, evoke intense emotions with a simple chord progression, and hide deeper meanings within melodies. Our 2010 marching band show entitled On Being Hit On The Head has inspired me greatly since we performed it because there were so many aspects that I did not understand yet, but my studies in college have helped me gain an appreciation for the show that seemed incredibly convoluted once upon a time. So this project is important to me because it is my opportunity to finally write down all of my ideas that I’ve been saving since I was 14 years old and share my own story.

The Premiere Capstone Presentation: 4/27/16
For my senior capstone presentation, I had the opportunity to host my event in the Charles W. Brown Planetarium located on Ball State University's campus. I coordinated with the Assistant Planetarium Director, Dayna Thompson, to visually enhance my music. The picture below is during the piece, "Clarity of Purpose." 110 people came to the premiere, and this was also the first time anyone has heard my music in a live setting. A fisheye view of the performance is to the right.
